Hello world!

November 23, 2006

When in college, we were required to write a program in C (on paper) to prove our capability. This allowed us access to the Zenix machine on campus. It was one of the very times in my life that I was ahead of the herd.

Nothing great, the program we had to write. All that the program required was to find out the no. of bits used to store an integer variable. It was the first C program I wrote. I have written quiet a few since then and I have forgotten most of them. Its like my first love. I even remember that I had a bug in the code (i was not saving the value after doing a bit shift), which it took me some time to figure out. But figure it out I did and the privilaged access to the Xenix m/c was mine. Point made, I never bothered to do much with this privilage. On reflection, that appears to be the attitude of the rest of my life.

The creation of a weblog is an effort to do something more than a one time trick. Its an effort to contribute to the community I live in, and the teams I work with. Lets see if I can stick with it this time.

‘Hello World!’, on reflection, those words spawned a generation of code and coders. They reflect an attitude and optimism that the language which spawned them has more than lived upto.

I keep the subject title just to remind me of what I grew up on, and what I am striving for.
